He was born in Scotland and has more than 25 years of experience in language consulting.
He studied accounting at Napier University in Edinburgh - Scotland. He graduated in Spanish with a diploma from the University of Sevilla - Spain, graduated from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow – Scotland with a degree in Spanish and Marketing, holds a Master's degree in Information Technology from the University of Glasgow - Scotland and completed a Portuguese Language course at the University Methodist of São Paulo - Brazil. He graduated as an English teacher at the University of Cambridge - England. He is also a professional translator certified by ProZ.
He has considerable experience with foreign languages. He speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish fluently, and also studied French, German, Italian and Russian. He lived for four years in Spain, one year in Germany and went to Brazil for the first time in 1998.
In addition to working with languages, he has a lot of professional experience: he worked for insurance companies investigating fraud; and as a Quantity Surveyor for the British Ministry of Defense at a military base for nuclear submarines. For several years he worked as an analyst in telecommunications for a leading management consultancy writing books on computer systems. In his last job in Scotland he was a computer systems administrator.
In 2010 he returned to Brazil and adopted Brazilian citizenship. He was an English teacher at Cultura Inglesa in São Paulo and Yázigi in Santo André, as well as working for private companies such as: Royal Caribbean, Rolls-Royce and a high technology company linked to USP where he taught classes for executives.
He worked as an aviation English teacher at Absolute Aviation for five years. The classes consisted of preparing pilots for the ICAO / ANAC test through simulations of the test. He taught interview techniques, phraseology, emergency procedures, and techniques to describe different situations. The pilots were from companies such as LATAM, Gol, Avianca, Azul, Emirates, Fly Dubai among others. He also prepared flight attendants for language exams to earn the “Language Badge” and taught business and general English. He was responsible for the preparation of the curriculum and the content of the classes. In addition, he gave orientation classes for job interviews, focused on individual interviews, group interviews, group dynamics and medical examinations and also on psychological tests.
He also taught technical English using the books "Check Your Aviation English", "Aviation English" and "Flight Path". He taught General English classes with "Global", "New American Inside Out" and "New English File" and Spanish classes. He was responsible for the training of new teachers and the writing of class material.
Mr. Colin is the author of “English Aviation Assessment – Quick Reference Handbook”, a guide to passing Aviation English Language Tests, which has been adopted by several language schools as the core material for Aviation English courses. He has also developed a subscription-based online learning platform (www.icaoqrh.com) and applications for Android and iOS to learn aviation English.
From 2015 - 2019 Mister Colin was the coordinator of an intensive ICAO Course in São Paulo, Brazil, at the largest aviation school in Latin America. Nowadays he gives ICAO exam preparation classes to pilots from all over the world, as well as being the Executive Director of Tukanos.
